The Black Lips are a flower punk band from Atlanta, GA. While still teenagers, the band formed in 1999 in Dunwoody, GA after Cole Alexander (guitar) and Jared Swilley (bass) left the band The Renegades, and Ben Eberbaugh (guitar) left the Reruns. Joe Bradley (drums) joined a few months later. Just days before a tour was set to begin in December 2002, Ben Eberbaugh was struck by drunk driver going the wrong way while parked at a toll booth. He was replaced by Jack Hines, who quit two years later to be closer to his family. A friend, Ian Saint Pe, who used to buy the other members beer when they were too young, joined the band and is part of the current incarnation. The video is of their song "O Katrina" off the band's 2007 studio album entitled Good Bad Not Evil.
Staying true to their punk attitude and way of life Alexander and Swilley are known for their crude antics on stage and even when they were in high school. They were kicked out of high school their senior year after the Columbine Massacre in 1999, being dubbed a subculture danger. They also fled India in 2009 in fear of being arrested for some of these onstage antics.
Smelly Dog
These guys are a bit too rough around the edges for me, but the acoustic stuff sounds good. Check them out on bandstandbusking.com
